Profile

Professor Deborah Brennan is the Deputy-Director, Social Policy Research Centre, University of New South Wales.

Deborah Brennan is one of Australia’s leading researchers in the area of comparative welfare, children’s services and family policy.  She has held visiting positions at the London School of Economics, Oxford University, Trinity College Dublin and the University of Melbourne.  She has contributed to national and international debates in her field and has advised the Australian and UK governments on the development of policies for families and children.  She has held elected positions on the board of the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS), Institute of Early Childhood (Macquarie University), Community Child Care (NSW) and the Women’s Trade Union Commission.  She was a member of the Department of Government and International Relations, University of Sydney, from 1990 – 2007 and served as Head of Department 2004 – 2006.  She is a former President of the Australian Political Science Association.
