Profile

Professor Pat O'Malley is Honorary Professor and formerly was University Professorial Research Fellow in Law at the University of Sydney, and is Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology at the University of Liverpool, UK.  Professor O'Malley specialises in criminology and the sociology of law, with a particular focus on the governance of risk and uncertainty.  He is currently researching the development of urban fire prevention in Australia, and the operation of resilience in security governance.  Other areas of interest include the place and role of money sanctions in contemporary law, and the rise of mass preventive justice.
