Profile

Professor Paul Memmott is an anthropologist/architect and Director of the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre (AERC), a research and resource centre based in UQ’s School of Architecture, with staffing and logistical support from the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR). The AERC has been constructed within the theoretical framework of behaviour-environment studies and environmental psychology that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. Paul’s major research interests are in architectural anthropology and material culture, Aboriginal housing and institutional architecture, Indigenous homelessness and public place dwelling, Indigenous family violence and suicide, and Indigenous geography of place and cultural landscape.
