ASSA made a submission on 22 April 2005 to the DEST Discussion Paper Building University Diversity: Future approval and accreditation processes for Australian higher education where, in the Minister's "Forward", Dr Brendan Nelson asked "Should universities be defined more by function and quality and less by form and structure?"

The Discussion Paper raises questions about overseas providers seeking access in Australia, but also about how the changing environment of higher education is, or is not, served by the current diversity and flexibility of Australian higher education institutions (see the DEST Website).

This Discussion Paper is the product of a working group of social science and humanities scholars, and industry collaborators who were convened by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia. The paper recommends several lines of research that industry interests and government funding bodies could support in order to enhance the utility of mobile phone technology to the people and institutions of Australia. 1.4mb (2004)
