Dr Thomas Wilkins from the Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney travelled to Beijing in May. Dr Wilkins conducted interviews with Chinese social scientists to inform his research project examining China’s network of Strategic Partnerships.
Professor Jan Pakulski of the University of Tasmania was nominated by the International Committee to receive the 2009 grant. Professor Pakulski visited the Institute of Sociology of the CASS, in Beijing, in the middle of 2009. His research focused on political transformations and elite change.
Dr Mark King from the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, School of Psychology and Counselling at Queensland University of Technology was been nominated for a visit to China in October 2008. The primary purpose of his visit was to establish cooperative research on road safety, focusing on the transfer of road safety knowledge and expertise.
Dr Ingrid Nielsen, Lecturer, Department of Management, Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University was selected as the ASSA scholar to visit China in 2006/7 under the Australia-China Exchange program. Dr Nielsen conducted joint research with Associate Professor Wang Dewen of the Institute of Population and Labour Economics at CASS for a project titled English language self-efficacy among chinese market vendors: impact on bargaining with international customers.
Dr Wing On Lee, Director of International Development in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney, visited China to explore features of Asian citizenship.
Dr Stephanie Fahey, Director of the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific at the University of Sydney, visited Beijing from 1-15 July 2005, and was based in the Institute of Sociology of CASS. A paper titled Generational Change in China: Sino-Japanese relations, the role of the internet and the State was prepared based on her research in China.
