The Call for Applications for 2012 grants is now closed.

The Call for Applications for 2012 grants is now closed. This call has been advertised to Fellows of the Academy, on the ASSA website, and to university research offices.

France

In April 2002, the Academy of the Social Sciences and the French Embassy in Australia agreed on a strategy to form stronger research relationships between social scientists in the two countries. One expression of this agreement is to provide a funded program to initiate and/or enhance joint research activity through an annual joint call for proposals.

Special attention will be paid to projects of interest to both French and Australian researchers and to those relevant to Pacific Island studies where research into matters surrounding indigenous and non-indigenous contact is topical and important. The funding is available to support visits from cooperating researchers travelling to Australia or to France (including French overseas territories).

This ASSA Joint-action Program, undertaken in partnership with the French Embassy in Australia encourages high quality applications, including from early- and mid-career social sciences researchers, and which hold the prospect of a broader ongoing collaboration with potential benefits for both countries.

This program has been positioned to offer a platform from which Franco-Australian research collaborations can build research and career trajectories. This scheme takes as an explicit objective offering collaborative teams the opportunity to generate the significant preliminary results which have become a mandatory basis for any attempt to secure funding on a larger scale. Accordingly, as per the terms of ASSA Joint-action Programs, proposals are sought from bilateral collaborative teams which can demonstrate to the Academy and the Embassy the prospect of an ongoing research project, on a larger scale.
