Academy of Social Sciences in Australia

ASSA-ISL Summit

Globalising Australian Social Science Research
Strategic visions for international linkages and partnerships

The final component of the Academy's International Science Linkages (ISL) Program, funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR), is the forthcoming ASSA-ISL Summit, which will be held on 24 and 25 March 2011 in Canberra. The Summit will reflect upon the justification, methods and promise of multi-national research, its history, current examples and future applications, for the benefit of both policymakers and researchers.

The focus of the Summit will be on bilateral and multilateral multidisciplinary research in the social sciences, and between the social sciences and other relevant research disciplines. Speakers will contemplate how, and under what circumstances internationally collaborative, multidisciplinary research can provide more robust results in issues of national and international strategic significance. ASSA Fellows and others will consider opportunities and impediments to international collaborations, and will be challenged to conceive of incentives to promote effective and enduring international research collaborations.

The results of the Summit will form a major contribution to the Academy's three year program conducted as part of the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research’s ISL scheme.
