The Academy of the Social Sciences, in partnership with cognate national institutions, currently runs a selection of Exchange and Joint-Action Schemes as a part of its International Program. Each of these competitive schemes offer grants to individual Australian (Exchange) social scientists, or teams of Australian and overseas (Joint-action) social scientists.
Applications for 2010 grants are now CLOSED. (Note: Applications for the ISL Joint-Action Bilateral Research Programs remain open until 27 December 2009.)
They will reopen in 2010 for travel in 2011, and will be announced: on the ASSA website; by email to Fellows of the Academy; on the CHASS website; and by email to university research and international offices.
Australia-France Social Sciences Collaborative Research Projects (SSP)
Special attention will be paid to projects of interest to both French and Australian scholars and to those relevant to Pacific Island studies where research into matters surrounding indigenous and non-indigenous contact is topical and important.
Australia-UK Special Joint Project Funding
One award (of up to £8,000) for a project which covers both humanities and social sciences disciplines, or two awards (of up to £4,000 per project) will be available each year, to cover travel and maintenance expenses.
Australia-China Exchange Program
The aims of the program include collaboration between Australian and Chinese scholars, the opportunity for access to research and research materials not easily accessible outside the countries concerned, and the development of networks of scholars with related interests both within the between the two countries.
Australia-Netherlands Exchange Program
This program has importance for, among other things, continued access to Dutch research and research materials on Indonesia. Normally 1-2 scholars from The Netherlands and Australia participate under this Program each year.
