Academy of Social Sciences in Australia
The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia through its international activities and agreements promotes scholarly cooperation, facilitates international research projects and exchanges by Australian social scientists with academic counterparts overseas, and permits the ASSA to act as an Australian national member of international organisations concerned with the social sciences.
The ASSA International Program aims to use its expertise as a broker of connectivity to create and foster strong linkages between Australian and international social science research communities, and also to act as the Academy's coordinating body for its increasing international role (which includes acting as permanent secretariat for the Asian Association of Social Science Research Councils), thereby both enhancing the capacity of Australian social sciences research as well as utilising those research fields in which Australia is strong to enhance the international public good.
The International Program is overseen by the Academy's International Committee.
The activities of the ASSA International Program include:
- ASSA International Grant Schemes run in partnership with cognate national institutions, or research collaborations
- International Science Linkages Program funded by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research
- Academy memberships of international and regional organisations
- Other Opportunities, including for workshops, schools and other collaborations.
