Professor John Barnes is a Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge and Emeritus Professor of sociology in the University of Cambridge. He has written on tribal politics in colonial Zambia, social organisation in Arnhemland and the New Guinea highlands, social network analysis, professional ethics and the sociology of lying. He is continuing his interest in farming and fishing communities in western Norway with an historical analysis of ownership and tenancy of land since the sixteenth century.
