CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

ARC Linkage Learned Academies Special Projects Funding Commencing in 2009

Each year the Australian Research Council provides funding to the Academy of the Social Sciences and the other three Learned Academies as part of its Linkage-Learned Academies Special Projects budget. Grants vary from year to year depending on the project, but have an upper limit of $120,000. In past years ASSA's Research Committee has called for proposals as part of the selection process and one project has obtained funding

The Call for Expressions of Interest for Projects commencing in 2009 has now closed.

Expressions of Interest for projects commencing in 2010 will be due in the first quater of 2009.

The Academy now welcomes applications from Fellows for research projects eligible for funding in 2009. Under guidelines established by ASSA's Research Committee, projects should:
- Capitalise on the unique capabilities of the Academy Fellowship;
- Undertake research on topics of significant importance to the social sciences or public life;
- Encourage multidisciplinary collaboration within the social sciences;
- Initiate new work and the generation of new ideas;
- Be a stand-alone project;
- Include plans for the dissemination of outcomes, e.g. publication as a monograph or in some other form.

Applications for Special Projects are subject to a two-phase application process:

Proposals are required to be submitted through Panel Chairs with a copy to William Douglas, at the Academy Secretariat.

PANEL A - Professor Michael Bittman (michael.bittman[at]une.edu.au)
PANEL B - Professor Amarjit Kaur (akaur[at]pobox.une.edu.au)
PANEL C - Professor Murray Goot (murray.goot[at]humn.mq.edu.au)
PANEL D - Professor Helen Christensen (helen.christensen[at]maccs.mq.edu.au)

They should comprise a 2-3 page Expression of Interest for the 2009 Round containing title, the anticipated project management team (usually led by the proposer), a summary of the project and the project outcomes. Once proposals are received, the Research Committee will short-list the preferred project, which will then need to be developed and submitted as a full proposal in JULY 2008, using the ARC electronic format.

For any further information or queries regarding the application process please contact William Douglas
either by phone (02 6249 1788), or email on
