Stuart Macintyre is the Ernest Scott Professor of History, University of Melbourne, and his principal research area is Australian history. Current interests include: labour history and the history of communism, historiography and the study of the Australian historical profession, history and civics and Australian federation.

He works on applied microeconomics, public economics, public policy and administration, population policy and cultural economics.
